Sink, faucet, toilet and fixture installation

Sinks and faucets, toilets, garbage disposals, shower and tub plumbing, the lines to the dishwasher and the refrigerator, and laundry hookups, set level, sealed and checked for leaks.

What fixtures do we install?

Kitchen and bath sinks and faucets, toilets, shower valves and trim, tub fillers, the supply and drain for a freestanding tub like the one in the photo above, dishwasher and refrigerator water lines, and the washer box behind the laundry. Old shutoffs that won’t close get replaced while the water’s off anyway. New fixtures often arrive with fittings that don’t match what’s in the wall, so the valves and stub-outs get checked at the estimate visit, before you buy something that won’t fit.

Lakisha Kelton’s review on this page is about her toilets. She mentions that Jamie explained what needed doing before he started, and that there were a few jokes along the way. Both are fairly typical of him.

Does replacing a fixture need a permit in Nashville?

Moving one does. Metro Codes’ renovation guidance requires a permit for new or relocated plumbing fixtures and for new shower or tub enclosures, while a vanity or cabinet swapped with no plumbing or electrical work needs none. The questions to ask are whether anything moves and whether anything is new. Shifting the toilet across the room to make space for a bigger vanity is a permitted job with an inspection.

Dishwasher, disposal, refrigerator and laundry hookups

These are where plumbing and electrical overlap most. A dishwasher needs a hot supply, a drain with a high loop or air gap, and power. A disposal hangs from the sink flange, takes the dishwasher’s drain hose and runs off a switch or an outlet under the cabinet, so a new one isn’t finished until the power has been checked. A refrigerator with an ice maker needs a water line and a shutoff you can reach. A laundry needs hot and cold supplies, a drain box, an outlet for the washer and, for an electric dryer, a 240-volt circuit. A gas dryer needs a gas connection instead, and Jamie holds a gas line certification. One estimate covers all of it.

Should you repair or replace a toilet?

Repair it, more often than not. The tank parts, meaning the flapper, the fill valve and the handle, are cheap and standard, and a wax seal or a flange can be redone without buying a new toilet. Replace one when the bowl or tank is cracked, when it flushes weakly whatever you do, or when you want a different height or a lower-flow model. A cracked tank tends to let go at night.

What changes the price of a fixture install?

Whether the new fixture goes where the old one was; the condition of the shutoffs, the supply lines and the flange or drain underneath; the fixture itself; and access from below. A toilet on a rotted flange or a soft subfloor is a bigger job than it looked, and you’ll know that before work starts, on an itemized estimate.

“Jamie was extremely knowledgeable and did an excellent job repairing my toilets. He took the time to explain everything that needed to be done and completed the work efficiently and professionally. In addition to his expertise, he had a great personality and kept things light with a few jokes along the way. I truly appreciated his excellent service and would highly recommend him.”

Fixtures and toilets: questions

Do I need a permit to move a toilet or sink in Nashville?

Yes. Metro Codes’ renovation guidance lists new or relocated plumbing fixtures among the changes that need a permit, so moving a toilet, sink or shower is permitted work with an inspection. Swapping a vanity or cabinet without touching plumbing or electrical doesn’t need one. Metro’s Plumbing Division answers questions at 615-862-6570.

Do you need a plumber to install a dishwasher?

You need someone who can handle both halves. A dishwasher takes a hot water supply, a drain connection with a high loop or air gap, and an electrical connection, and a new location may need a new circuit inspected to Metro’s 2023 NEC. Jamie handles both the plumbing and the electrical, so a dishwasher install is a single estimate.

Why does my toilet rock?

The floor under it isn’t flat, the bolts have loosened, or the flange has broken or settled. Shimming and resetting handles the first two. A rocking toilet eventually breaks the wax seal, and a slow leak there rots the subfloor around the flange, so it’s worth fixing early. If the floor feels soft at the base, the leak has already started.

Can a freestanding tub go in any bathroom?

Most bathrooms can take one, with the plumbing planned for it. The drain has to land where the tub sits, the filler usually comes up through the floor or the wall, and a filled cast iron or stone tub is heavy enough to check the framing. Moving the drain counts as a relocated fixture, which needs a Metro permit.

Does a washing machine need its own circuit?

In new work, yes: the electrical code calls for a dedicated laundry receptacle circuit, and an electric dryer needs its own 240-volt circuit on top of that. If you’re moving laundry to a new room, plan on both, plus hot and cold supplies and a drain box. Metro Nashville inspects new electrical work to the 2023 NEC.

Why is the water pressure low at my new faucet?

Usually the aerator caught debris that came loose when the water was shut off and turned back on. Unscrew it, rinse it and put it back. Nashville’s water carries calcium, 75.3 mg/L on average in Metro Water’s 2025 report, so older aerators and cartridges also scale up. If it’s still low, check that both shutoffs under the sink are fully open.
